LIVE IN DE LOODS w/ HEF

Wibar occupies a converted factory building on Willem Barentszstraat 39 in Leiden, and the industrial bones of the space give it a character that purpose built venues rarely achieve. What began as a party concept has grown into one of the city's most recognizable independent cultural spots, drawing both local acts and touring artists to its stage. The warehouse setting suits the programming well: there is an unfinished, adaptable quality to the space that makes it work for a club night as comfortably as it does for a live concert or an art exhibition. The programming at Wibar resists a fixed formula, which is part of what defines it. Electronic music nights sit alongside live performances, visual art exhibitions and more experimental creative events, often pulling in crowds from well outside Leiden. Shows regularly sell out, which for an independent venue in a mid sized Dutch city is a meaningful indicator of the following it has built. Local artists and makers treat it as a home base, and that community function shapes the atmosphere as much as the ticketed programming does. The range of what happens here runs, as Wibar itself has described it, from raw to refined, meaning the audience on any given evening might be there to dance, to see an emerging band, or to take in a performance that does not fit neatly into any single category. That mix of disciplines and target groups, under one converted industrial roof, is what sets Wibar apart from more conventional Leiden venues.
