Rowwen Hèze

The Scheldetheater in Terneuzen opened on 27 September 2001, when Prince Willem Alexander performed the official inauguration. The building was designed by architect Walter van Oerle of the firm Storme en Van Ranst and sits at Westkolkstraat 16 in the heart of Terneuzen. It is part of the Zeelandtheaters network, which also includes Schouwburg Middelburg and Theater de Mythe in Goes, making it one of three main theatrical venues in the province of Zeeland. The venue contains two performance spaces. The main auditorium seats close to 800 people, while the smaller hall accommodates around 175. That combination allows the Scheldetheater to serve both larger touring productions and more intimate evenings. The programming covers a wide range: pop and rock concerts sit alongside classical music, cabaret, musical theatre, and family shows. Acts that have performed here include Golden Earring, O'G3NE, 3JS, Het Zesde Metaal, Timebox, Novastar, Kommil Foo, Anneke van Giersbergen, and Yentl en de Boer, giving a sense of the mix between Dutch language acts, Belgian artists, and international names. Within Zeeuws Vlaanderen, the southernmost and most geographically isolated part of the Dutch province of Zeeland, the Scheldetheater functions as the primary cultural anchor for the region. For audiences in this corner of the Netherlands, bordered by Belgium and the Westerschelde estuary, it is the closest full scale theatre and concert hall, which lends the venue a significance beyond what its capacity alone might suggest.
