Doornroosje in Nijmegen was founded in 1970 as a creative activities center in a squatted school building, initially serving as a gathering place for hippies. The venue became known as one of the first places in the Netherlands where cannabis was openly available. It programmed many bands, often before they achieved wider recognition.
