About
Also known as: 1200 Mic's, 1200 Mics, 1200mics, 1300 Mics
Formed around a concept that reportedly came to Raja Ram while he was hallucinating in a hammock in Brazil, 1200 Micrograms brought together psytrance pioneer Ron Rothfield (Raja Ram) and his longtime friend Chicago with GMS duo Sajahan Natkin and Joe Quinteros. Based in Ibiza, the four have been making and performing full on psytrance together since 1999, with Natkin and Quinteros handling production while Rothfield and Chicago front the live show with vocals, keyboards and flute. Their self titled debut album leaned hard into psychedelic territory, with nine tracks named after substances like LSD, DMT, Mescaline and Magic Mushrooms, drawing on Terence McKenna quotes and samples from films including Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The follow up, Heroes of the Imagination, paid tribute to scientists and inventors from da Vinci to Tim Berners Lee, and contained the track Acid for Nothing, a trance rework of Dire Straits' Money for Nothing. A third album, The Time Machine, drew inspiration from historical eras and ancient civilisations. All three were released on TIP.World, the label Raja Ram helped found as one of the earliest names in Goa and psytrance.
