About
A Balladeer started as a full band out of Amsterdam, but over the years has essentially become the vehicle of singer and songwriter Marinus de Goederen. They made early waves by winning the 3FM BuZz Award and the audience prize at the Singer Songwriter finale of the Grote Prijs van Nederland, which led to support slots for acts like Keane and BLØF. Their 2004 debut EP Rumor Had It drew enthusiastic radio play and press, with OOR calling it heartbreakingly beautiful. The debut album Panama followed in 2006 on EMI, recorded with BLØF bassist Peter Slager and Nick Drake arranger Robert Kirby, entering the Dutch Album Top 100 at number 30. Second album Where Are You, Bambi Woods? earned an Edison nomination, and the project kept evolving from there. A Wolf at the Door arrived in 2016, and in 2017 the single Mob Wife featured Sam Bettens of K's Choice. That same year A Balladeer ran a crowdfunding campaign that hit its target in just three days, funding the Christmas album December, a nine track collection of original songs.
