About
Act of Defiance began the day two Megadeth members walked out on the same day. Guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover resigned together, then teamed up with vocalist Henry Derek, who had been in Scar the Martyr and Thrown into Exile, and bassist Matt Bachand, better known as a Shadows Fall guitarist. The result was a Los Angeles metal supergroup formed in 2014. They put out two studio albums, Birth and the Burial in 2015 and Old Scars, New Wounds in 2017, and shot videos for tracks like Throwback, Legion of Lies, M.I.A and Overexposure. Things slowed down once Broderick joined In Flames as a touring member in 2019, and the band sat idle through the pandemic. In a 2023 interview Drover said the group had effectively come to a close when Broderick became a permanent In Flames member.
