Acumen Nation have been grinding out industrial metal from Chicago since the late 1980s, building their reputation the hard way through relentless touring with acts like KMFDM, Chemlab, and 16 Volt. Originally called Acumen, they were forced to split into two projects after a legal name dispute in 1997: the drum and bass flavoured DJ? Acucrack on one side, and the harder rocking Acumen Nation on the other. The band ran their own label, CrackNation Records, from 2000 onwards, putting out not just their own material but also releases from acts like Cyanotic. A real turning point came in 2012 with the death of guitarist Jamie Duffy, whose influence stretched far beyond Acumen Nation into Chicago's wider music scene. Since then, Jason Novak has kept the name alive, pulling the band together for occasional live shows.
