Polish violinist Adam Bałdych has built a reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary jazz, recording for the German label ACT Music and collaborating with a cast of top European players including Lars Danielsson, Marius Neset, and Yaron Herman. His 2012 album Imaginary Room was the real breakthrough, landing him spots at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the London Jazz Festival, and earning him the ECHO Jazz Award in 2013 as International Artist of the Year, making him the first Polish musician ever to receive that honour. Since then he has kept pushing in interesting directions. The New Tradition, recorded with Israeli pianist Yaron Herman, followed in 2014, and the collaborative Bridges album with the Helge Lien Trio came out in 2015. His discography has continued to grow steadily, with releases pairing him alongside Paolo Fresu, Vincent Courtois, and pianist Leszek Możdżer. Jazz Forum magazine named him Fiddler and Hope three years running, from 2012 to 2014.
