About
Adi Oasis picked up the bass guitar almost by accident, stepping in when a bandmate dropped out before a show, and it ended up becoming the instrument most closely tied to her sound. The French Caribbean artist, now rooted in Brooklyn, blends soul, funk and R&B in a way that draws clear lines back to Prince, Chaka Khan, Curtis Mayfield and Minnie Riperton. Before going solo she sang lead for Escort, a New York nu disco outfit, and her collaboration with KAMAUU on the single "Mango" pulled in over 10 million YouTube views within a year of its release. Her 2023 album "Lotus Glow" is where everything clicks into place. Built around live instruments and a deliberately raw, funky feel, it carries the lotus flower as a running metaphor for transformation and roots. Tracks like "Serena" and "Red To Violet" read as anthems for Black women, while "Sidonie" and "The Water" pay tribute to her Caribbean and French heritage. It is her most personal work to date, and it sounds like it.
