Agathe Ensemble has one upcoming show in the Netherlands: on February 7, 2027 at Stadsgehoorzaal Vlaardingen, Vlaardingen.
About
Agathe Ensemble plays chamber music with a strong pull toward folk tradition. One of their programmes, Scenes of a Folk Life, digs into folk melodies from the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. The pieces were originally written for piano, and the musicians arranged them themselves, working alongside nine string players. This material forms the backbone of the group's second studio album. At the centre of it all is the composer Julius Röntgen, who moved to the Netherlands in 1877 and fell hard for Dutch folk music. The programme draws on his friendship with Edvard Grieg, formed during their student days in Leipzig, and on his partner Amanda Maier, a Swedish violinist and composer. All three treated folk tunes as a living source tied to daily life, the seasons and local customs. The ensemble shows how simple melodies and dances can grow into direct, story driven chamber music.
