Agathocles have been grinding away since 1985, making them one of the longest running extreme bands in Belgium. They coined their own subgenre, mincecore, a particularly raw and aggressive strain of grindcore, and built their reputation almost entirely through a staggering volume of split seven inch EPs released with bands from all over the world. Their lyrics tackle anti fascism, animal liberation and anarchism, and every member of the band is vegetarian, making the politics inseparable from the music. The only constant throughout decades of revolving lineups has been Jan Frederickx, also known as Jan AG, who has handled vocals, bass and guitar at various points. Over the years Agathocles toured extensively across Europe, recorded a Peel Session at the BBC, and shared stages with acts like Napalm Death and Pestilence back when both were still underground names. Few bands in grindcore have put out as much material, or kept going as stubbornly, as this Belgian outfit from Geel.
