About

Also known as: Airiel Project One

Airiel sum up their own sound pretty well: loud, pretty, and you can dance to it. The Chicago shoegaze band has been at it since the late nineties, when Jeremy Wrenn and Shawn Delaney started the project in Bloomington, Indiana under the name Airiel Project One. Their debut full length, The Battle of Sealand, came out in 2007 on Highwheel Records and even earned the band the honorary title of lords of the Principality of Sealand, a real micronation, though a planned live concert there never happened. After signing to Shelflife Records, Airiel came back with the Kid Games EP in 2012 and then the second album Molten Young Lovers in 2017, a decade after their debut. The band has since slimmed down to a duo of Wrenn and Andrew Marrah, and they released the single Bloom in 2020. Along the way they toured the UK and Ireland with Ulrich Schnauss, who contributed to The Battle of Sealand, which gives you a good sense of the sonic territory they occupy.
