The Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra spent 15 years as one of Washington D.C.'s most active professional jazz ensembles, built around the arranging and compositional talents of Alan Baylock. During that run they laid down three studio albums and performed extensively across the United States, with Baylock's charts drawing on a deep bench of jazz heavyweights including Freddie Hubbard, Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Paquito D'Rivera, and Joshua Redman among many others. Baylock's writing for the orchestra sits in that ambitious big band territory where jazz tradition meets adventurous arranging, pulling from a catalogue that spans original compositions and reimagined standards.
