About
Also known as: Aleksi Kristian Perälä
With over 150 full length albums to his name, Finnish producer Aleksi Perälä operates on a scale that makes most electronic artists look leisurely. He signed to Rephlex Records in 1999 under the alias Ovuca, dropping his debut Lactavent and touring alongside Aphex Twin, Bogdan Raczynski, and Luke Vibert on the Warp Magic Bus. A collaboration with Cylob produced Cylobotnia in 2003, another Rephlex release that sat comfortably in the braindance world the label championed. The real obsession driving his output is the Colundi system, a set of 128 frequencies developed by Rephlex co founder Grant Wilson Claridge, which Perälä has woven into his work since founding the AP Musik sublabel in 2011. A two year grant from the Kone Foundation in 2021 sent his pace into overdrive, with albums arriving weekly or fortnightly, rooted in additive synthesis and world music textures. He samples objects from his surroundings, replaces their partials with colundi frequencies, and draws on natural patterns like phi, pi, and the Fibonacci Pingala sequence. Track titles have largely given way to ISRC codes, a logical move when you are releasing music at that kind of velocity.
