German violinist Alexander Gilman plays at the level where conductors like Neeme Järvi and Bernard Haitink want him on stage, and venues like the Berliner Philharmonie and Musikverein keep inviting him back. He performs on a 1684 Stradivari, the "Ex Croall", which Frank Peter Zimmermann handed over to him after Gilman won the WestLB Music Competition in 2006. Beyond solo performing, Gilman founded the LGT Young Soloists in 2013, an ensemble for gifted players aged 12 to 30 that became the first youth orchestra to record for RCA/Sony Music. Their discography spans several albums on Sony and Naxos, ranging from Russian repertoire to a 2020 world premiere recording of rearranged Beethoven chamber works with string orchestra. He also teaches at the Royal College of Music in London and Kalaidos University in Switzerland.
