Alexander Rudin is a Russian cellist and conductor who has spent decades pushing the boundaries of what classical performance can look and sound like. He's performed as a solo cellist with major ensembles including the Royal Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, and the Danish Radio Orchestra, and has led the Musica Viva Chamber Orchestra since 1988. His passion for historically informed playing takes him well beyond the standard cello repertoire, delving into early and baroque music on both cello and viola da gamba. On record, he's covered a wide range of composers for labels like Hyperion, Naxos, and Fuga Libera, with works by Bach, Grieg, Prokofiev, and Strauss among his credits. A professor at the Moscow Conservatory, where he teaches chamber music, he also runs master classes worldwide and holds the position of music director at Yaşar University in İzmir.
