Alexandre Desplat has quietly become one of the most in demand film composers working today, with a catalog stretching from intimate French dramas to sprawling Hollywood blockbusters. His scores for The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Shape of Water each earned him an Academy Award, and his list of Oscar nominations reads like a who's who of prestige cinema: The Queen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The King's Speech, Argo, The Imitation Game, and more. He has a particular gift for tailoring his orchestral sound to wildly different worlds, whether the whimsical deadpan of a Wes Anderson film or the tense underwater atmosphere of a Guillermo del Toro picture. Desplat has conducted his own work with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, and the Munich Symphony Orchestra, and he has written for the theatre as well, including pieces performed at the Comédie Française. His collaborations span directors like Roman Polanski, Terrence Malick, and Gareth Edwards, and he has contributed songs performed on screen by artists including Charlotte Gainsbourg and Catherine Ringer.
