Russian born oboist Alexei Ogrintchouk has been principal oboist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra since 2005, a position he stepped into after holding the same role at the Rotterdam Philharmonic under Valery Gergiev from the age of just twenty. Trained in Moscow and later in Paris under Maurice Bourgue, he has performed as a soloist with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the BBC orchestras, the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theatre orchestras. He has shared the stage with Gidon Kremer, Radu Lupu, Mischa Maisky and many others at venues from Carnegie Hall to the Wiener Musikverein. Beyond the oboe, Ogrintchouk has steadily built a conducting career without any formal training in the discipline. He recorded a disc for BIS as a conductor featuring fagottist Bram van Sambeek in Mozart, Weber and Du Puy concertos. From the 2023 to 2024 season he took up the post of chief conductor of Phion, Orkest van Gelderland en Overijssel.
