Alfa Mist (GB)

About

Alfa Mist is one of those artists who genuinely blurs the line between jazz and hip hop, not by straddling two stools but by making them feel like one thing. Born Alfa Sekitoleko and based in Newham, London, he taught himself piano after being drawn into jazz through sampling as a teenage hip hop producer, and that self taught edge still shapes how his music feels. His debut EP Nocturne arrived in 2015, and his 2021 album Bring Backs on the American indie label Anti brought him wider attention, including a MOBO Awards nomination that year. He has worked alongside Jordan Rakei, Yussef Dayes, and Tom Misch, and also runs his own label, Sekito. A live session from Invada in 2023 showed he is still very much in motion.
