Alice Russell has one of those voices that stops you mid scroll. The Suffolk born soul singer built her reputation through a string of collaborations in the early 2000s, lending her vocals to projects by Quantic, TM Juke and Nostalgia 77, before stepping out on her own with her 2005 debut studio album My Favourite Letters. Her touchstones sit somewhere between Minnie Riperton, Chaka Khan and Jill Scott, and that lineage comes through clearly in her warm, deeply felt delivery. Over the years she has released records on Tru Thoughts and Six Degrees, including Pot of Gold and the 2013 album To Dust. She also popped up on David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's Here Lies Love, contributing vocals to one of its tracks. After nearly a decade away from solo releases, she came back in 2024 with I Am, her first album since To Dust and a reminder that her voice has lost absolutely none of its pull.
