Alien Weaponry bring something genuinely distinct to heavy metal: thrash and groove riffs delivered with real ferocity, and lyrics that wrestle with New Zealand colonial history in both English and te reo Māori. The trio from Waipu, all of Māori ancestry, have made that bilingual approach central to their identity rather than a novelty. Their debut album Tū landed in 2018 and cracked the New Zealand top five, with tracks like 'Kai Tangata' and 'Holding My Breath' showing how hard they could hit without sacrificing melody. 'Holding My Breath' even became the official theme for NXT TakeOver: Phoenix that same year. By their teens they were already playing Wacken Open Air and touring North America alongside Ministry, and Metal Hammer put them on their cover in January 2021 with the tag 'Meet The Future Of Metal'. Their sophomore record Tangaroa followed in 2021, and their third full length Te Rā arrived in March 2025 via Napalm Records. The recent video for 'Mau Moko' suggests they are very much still in motion.
