Allen Stone makes the kind of soul and R&B that sounds like it was pulled straight from a classic 1970s record collection, which makes sense given his deep love for Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Aretha Franklin. His self titled 2011 album was the real breakthrough moment, backed by Raphael Saadiq's rhythm section and Miles Davis' keyboardist Deron Johnson, peaking at number 2 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts. The New York Times drew comparisons to Donny Hathaway and Bill Withers, and a live video of his song "Unaware" racked up over 16 million views on YouTube. Since then Stone has kept busy across some pretty varied territory. He featured on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's "Neon Cathedral", co produced his 2019 album Building Balance with Jamie Lidell, and represented Washington state at the 2022 American Song Contest, finishing fifth in the final. More recently he co wrote and sang on "Look At Me", the opening track of Cory Wong's 2023 album The Lucky One.
