About
Aloe Blacc has a knack for landing on tracks that go everywhere. His vocals on Avicii's "Wake Me Up" turned the 2013 single into a number one hit in over 100 countries and the fastest selling single in UK history at the time, moving 267,000 copies in its first week alone. Born Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III, he built his reputation through a blend of soul, R&B and hip hop, earning gold and double platinum certifications across multiple countries for his 2010 album Good Things. The single "I Need a Dollar" became the theme for the HBO series How to Make It in America and crossed a million in sales. Before going solo, Blacc was already deep in underground hip hop as one half of Emanon, a duo he formed with producer Exile in 1995. The group name spells "no name" backwards, inspired by a Dizzy Gillespie track. His solo work shifted into soulful, socially conscious songwriting, and "The Man" from his major label debut reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. He has since collaborated with LeAnn Rimes on a version of his song "I Do".
