About
AMANI makes music rooted in an Afro Caribbean sound, and she pulls from a wide pool to do it. Pop, dancehall, kawina, R&B and house all end up in the mix, which gives her songs a blend that's hard to pin to a single genre. Kawina, for the uninitiated, is a Surinamese tradition, and it sits right at the heart of what she does. She was born and raised in Suriname, and that background runs through her work. A project called Echo is framed as the start of a new chapter, one where she leans fully into her identity, her roots and her own artistic vision.
