About
Kenyan singer Amani, born Cecilia Wairimu, built her name on a string of radio hits that defined early 2000s Kenyan pop. Her 2002 collaboration with Nameless, "Ninanoki", was a nationwide smash, and singles like "Bad Boy" featuring Nyashinski of Kleptomaniax kept her at the top of the charts. Her debut album Tamani arrived in 2006, and her reach has taken her to stages across Europe, the US, and much of Africa. She picked up the Best Female award at the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards, among other major regional honours. In 2010 she joined the African supergroup One 8 alongside Ali Kiba, Fally Ipupa, 2face Idibia and others for "Hands Across The World", a song written and produced by R Kelly and described by Billboard as an uplifting ballad. More recently she has leaned into reggae and dancehall sounds, and after her 2018 spiritual turn she has also released gospel material.
