Gothenburg's Amaranthe built their reputation on something few bands dare attempt: three lead vocalists singing simultaneously across wildly different registers, weaving clean pop melodies, operatic female vocals, and harsh screamed parts into a single track. The genre tags pile up fast, ranging from power metal and melodic death metal to trance metal and metalcore, and the band has mostly shrugged at pinning it down. Their 2013 album The Nexus cracked the top ten in Sweden and Finland, and each record since has pushed the contrasts further. Originally called Avalanche, they were forced to rebrand in 2009 due to legal issues and have cycled through several vocalists over the years while keeping the core sound intact. Their seventh studio album, The Catalyst, arrived in early 2024, featuring new harsh vocalist Mikael Sehlin. The band is signed to Nuclear Blast Records and continues to expand a discography that now spans well over a decade of relentless output.
