About
Also known as: AMON ADONAI SANTOS DE ARAUJO TOBIN, Amon Adonai Santos de Aravjo Tobin, Amon Adonai Santos de Araújo Tobin
Amon Tobin has built one of the most distinctive sounds in electronic music by treating the studio itself as an instrument. The Brazilian born producer, working primarily under the Ninja Tune label, layers jazz samples, warped field recordings, and dense rhythmic programming into something that refuses to sit neatly in any single genre. Critics at Pitchfork famously handed Bricolage a 10/10 back in 1999, comparing his jazz sample work to Quincy Jones and Miles Davis, and his 2000 release Supermodified pushed that sound into more commercial territory without losing any of its edge. Beyond records, his reach extends into film and games. He scored Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for Ubisoft and Sucker Punch's Infamous, and his music has appeared in major films like The Italian Job and the Cannes nominated Divine Intervention. His live show ISAM, a full audiovisual spectacle, became one of the more talked about concert experiences in electronic music. More recently he has been putting out work under the Stone Giants project, with tracks surfacing in 2023.
