About
The Amstel Saxophone Quartet takes baroque repertoire and reimagines it through the voice of the saxophone, an instrument that didn't even exist when composers like Telemann and Vivaldi were writing. The result is a programme that sits at a curious crossroads: familiar baroque pieces heard in a fresh light, alongside works by composers who were genuinely drawn to the saxophone's distinctive tone. To get the most out of that sound, the quartet expands beyond its standard setup by adding an extra soprano saxophone to the mix.
