The Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest centres its work on the classical Arabo Andalusian musical tradition, performing the complex, layered compositions known as nubat that sit at the heart of that repertoire. Based in Amsterdam, the ensemble brings this music to life outside Morocco, where the tradition has its deepest roots. The orchestra is made up of musicians from a range of backgrounds who share a passion for Arabo Andalusian music, and that mix of perspectives gives the group a distinctly Amsterdam character. Their programme Andalusian Currents is a showcase of this refined tradition, shaped by a spirit of collaboration and cultural exchange.
