About

Amy Millan is one of those artists who somehow holds together multiple corners of the Canadian indie scene at once. She sings and plays guitar in both Stars and Broken Social Scene, and her voice is arguably the warm centre of Stars' sound, especially on the duets she shares with Torquil Campbell. It was her song "Ageless Beauty" that helped push Stars' 2004 record Set Yourself on Fire into a commercial breakthrough. Her solo work is a different beast entirely, leaning hard into country and folk rather than the lush indie pop of Stars. Her debut album Honey from the Tombs drew on songs she had been sitting on for years, with themes of loss, loneliness and the occasional comfort of a drink. Her follow up, Masters of the Burial, came out in 2009 and features an eclectic cast including Leslie Feist and Evan Cranley, alongside cover versions of songs by Death Cab for Cutie and Sarah Harmer.
