About
Also known as: Jerry Fish & the Mudbug Club
An Emotional Fish built their reputation the hard way, touring relentlessly across Europe supporting acts like U2, Simple Minds, Blondie and Depeche Mode before landing a deal with Atlantic Records, personally signed by legendary label boss Ahmet Ertegun after he caught them at a sold out show at Dublin's Baggot Inn. Their single 'Celebrate' cracked the top 10 in Ireland, hit the UK Singles Chart and climbed into the top 5 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart, proving the Dublin four piece could hold their own on both sides of the Atlantic. Their sound drew from a sharp set of influences including The Clash, The Doors, David Bowie and Iggy Pop. The band released three studio albums before quietly dissolving around 2000, though their footprint lingered in unexpected places. Italian rock icon Vasco Rossi covered 'Celebrate' in Italian on his 1993 album Gli Spari Sopra, which went platinum ten times over. Vocalist Gerard Whelan later carried on with Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club, continuing to work alongside bassist Enda Wyatt. The band reunited for occasional shows, including a five song set at the Féile Classical festival in 2018.
