About
Also known as: María del Pilar Cuesta Acosta
Ana Belén has spent decades threading together music, film and theatre in a way few Spanish artists manage. Born María del Pilar Cuesta Acosta in Madrid, she took her stage name from a character she played in her first film back in 1966, and it stuck. Her music leans into latin ballad, trova and bolero territory, often carrying sharp social and political edges. The 1986 single "La Puerta de Alcalá", recorded with her husband Víctor Manuel, sat at the top of the Spanish charts for seven weeks. Her 1997 album Mírame became the best selling record of her solo career, and her 1998 Lorquiana project, setting poems and songs by Federico García Lorca to music across two volumes, showed real artistic ambition. She also toured Spain in 1996 alongside Joan Manuel Serrat, Miguel Ríos and Víctor Manuel, breaking ticket sales records with the "El gusto es nuestro" tour. In 2025 she released Vengo con los ojos nuevos.
