About
Andrea Marcon is a baroque specialist from Treviso, Italy, who has spent close to two decades bringing Italian baroque music to concert audiences, working with ensembles including the Venice Baroque Orchestra and La Cetra from Basel. His programmes often centre on Venetian repertoire, and Vivaldi's Gloria, one of many works the composer wrote for the Ospedale della Pietà, a Venetian girls' orphanage with a remarkably high standard of music making, is a natural fit for his work. Marcon pays close attention to the spatial possibilities of baroque music. When performing Georg Muffat's 24 voice Missa in labore requies with La Cetra, he positions his musicians in multiple groups to bring out the echo effects and grand proportions that this style of writing demands.
