Andreas Staier is one of those rare musicians equally at home on the harpsichord, the fortepiano, and the modern piano, and his playing across all three instruments has earned him a serious reputation in early music circles. His repertoire covers the 17th through 19th centuries, and he has recorded extensively in that range, working with ensembles like Concerto Köln, the Freiburg Barockorchester, and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. He spent three years as harpsichord soloist with Musica Antiqua Köln before striking out on his own in 1986, and has since built a career as both soloist and chamber musician. In chamber music he has partnered with singers and instrumentalists including Anne Sofie von Otter and Christoph Prégardien, with whom he recorded lieder by Schubert, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, and Brahms. His Mozart recording 'am Stein Vis à vis' won a Diapason d'Or in 2007, and he has picked up the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik twice as well as the Prätorius Musikpreis. He has also appeared regularly on the BBC.
