About
Colombian conductor Andrés Orozco Estrada has built one of the most active careers in orchestral conducting over the past two decades, holding multiple top posts simultaneously across Europe and the Americas. He spent nearly a decade as music director of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and as chief conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, building a substantial discography with both ensembles on the Pentatone label, covering everything from Dvořák symphonies to Richard Strauss operas and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. He also serves as principal conductor of the Filarmónica Joven de Colombia, keeping close ties to his home country. These days Orozco Estrada is principal conductor of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Italy and Generalmusikdirektor of both the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne and Cologne Opera, a role that kicks in from the 2025 to 2026 season. The Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra has also announced him as their next chief conductor from 2026 to 2027. His recordings span Mahler, Mendelssohn, Haydn and contemporary composers, reflecting the broad range he brings to the podium.
