About

Also known as: Andrey Boreyko, Andrzej Borejko, Andrzej Boreyko, Андрей Викторович Борейко

Andrey Boreyko is a Polish Russian conductor whose career has taken him across Europe and North America, leading some of the most respected orchestras on either continent. He picked up prizes at two major conducting competitions in the late 1980s, and his time as music director of the Jena Philharmonic earned him three consecutive awards from German music critics for innovative programming, a rare run of recognition that set the tone for the rest of his career. His discography leans toward the adventurous: recordings of Arvo Pärt's Lamentate and Valentin Silvestrov's Symphony No. 6 with the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra for ECM Records sit alongside a live Shostakovich Symphony No. 4 that also included a world premiere recording of the Suite from Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. He has held principal positions in Bern, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Winnipeg, Brussels and Naples, and served as artistic and music director of the Warsaw National Philharmonic.
