Anika recorded her debut album in just 12 days with no overdubs, working alongside producer Geoff Barrow and his band Beak. That raw, no frills approach set the tone for a career built on dub inflected electronics and post punk cool. The 2010 self titled record leaned heavily on covers, reworking tracks by Yoko Ono, Bob Dylan and Skeeter Davis into something distinctly her own. One of those covers, "I Go to Sleep", later landed in a key scene of the Netflix series Russian Doll. She has kept expanding her world ever since. With her Mexico City project Exploded View she released two albums on Sacred Bones Records, and her 2021 solo return Change earned strong reviews, its single "Finger Pies" chosen by Chanel to open their Spring Summer 2022 runway show in Paris. Her 2025 album Abyss takes a sharp turn toward heavier, grunge influenced territory, citing Hole, The Breeders and X Ray Spex as touchstones.
