About
Also known as: Anna Vinnitskaya, Anna Vinnitskaïa, Anna Winnizkaja
When Anna Vinnitskaya won the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in Brussels in 2007, she became only the second woman ever to take the top prize in the piano category, following Ekaterina Novitskaya back in 1968. What sealed the deal in the final round was a striking combination: Beethoven's Sonata No.13 in E flat, the compulsory piece by Miguel Gálvez Taroncher, and Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No.2. But it was her Gaspard de la nuit by Ravel in the earlier rounds that reportedly stopped people in their tracks. The Russian pianist from Novorossiysk has performed with some seriously heavy ensembles, from the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Boston Symphony to the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Her playing sits comfortably in the classical and impressionist repertoire, and since 2009 she has also been a professor at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, where she herself once studied.
