About
Also known as: Anihiliator, Annihiliator, Annihiltor, 애니힐레이터
Annihilator is basically Jeff Waters and whoever he decides to build a band around that year. He formed the group in Ottawa in 1984, still runs the show as guitarist, writer, producer and engineer, and sometimes fills in on bass and vocals too. The lineup has changed constantly, but the output hasn't slowed: seventeen studio albums, and the title of highest selling Canadian heavy metal group, even if most of those sales happened outside Canada. The debut Alice in Hell (1989) and Never, Neverland (1990) are still counted among the most influential Canadian metal records, and the band sits alongside Sacrifice, Voivod and Razor in the so called Big Four of Canadian thrash. Set the World on Fire (1993) was their major label moment, a more radio friendly record that did well in Europe and Asia. Later albums swung between sharp, technical thrash and groove or industrial leanings. Their latest batch of videos, including Armed To The Teeth and Psycho Ward, points back to Ballistic, Sadistic from 2020.
