About

Also known as: António José Rodeia Zambujo

António Zambujo has built a reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Portuguese music, blending fado with cante alentejano, bossa nova, and jazz in a way that feels both rooted and restless. Originally from Beja in the Alentejo region, he carries that southern Portuguese tradition into everything he does, though his sound has expanded considerably over the years to embrace Brazilian influences alongside artists like João Gilberto and Caetano Veloso. He won the Amália Rodrigues Foundation prize for best male fado singer, and his 2016 album interpreting songs by Chico Buarque, featuring collaborations with Buarque himself, Carminho, and Roberta Sá, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best MPB Album. His song "Sem Palavras" picked up a further Latin Grammy nod for Best Portuguese Language Song. Critics consistently point to the same quality: an emotional depth delivered without drama, in a soft and quietly devastating style.
