About
Apollo Ensemble is a period instrument group that builds programmes around baroque repertoire, drawing on music from across Europe. Their players come from an international background and perform on historical instruments, giving the ensemble a sound rooted in authentic baroque practice. A typical programme might bridge Italian and English baroque traditions, pairing Vivaldi with Handel, while also shining a light on lesser known figures from the period. The group has shown a particular interest in rediscovering female baroque composers, including the enigmatic Mrs. Philharmonica of London, the English composer Elisabetta de Gambarini, and Anna Bon, who studied under Vivaldi. The core lineup includes soprano, recorder, baroque oboe, violin, bassoon, cello and harpsichord.
