About
Also known as: Courtney Shanade Salter
Ari Lennox built her name as the first woman signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records, and her debut album Shea Butter Baby from 2019 made it clear the label made the right call. Her sound pulls from the deep well of 90s and 2000s R&B, with nods to Erykah Badu, D'Angelo and Aaliyah running through her neo soul style. Badu comparisons come up often, and Lennox herself describes her voice as "vulnerable but soulful; imperfect but pretty." The 2021 single Pressure, produced by Jermaine Dupri and Bryan Michael Cox, got her onto the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time as a solo act and hit number 3 on R&B/Hip Hop Airplay. That laid the groundwork for her second album Age/Sex/Location in 2022. She later parted ways with Dreamville and released her third studio album Vacancy in 2026 as an Interscope artist.
