About
Also known as: Charlemagne
Hamilton, Ontario's Arkells have built one of the most loyal fanbases in Canadian rock by combining hook heavy alternative rock with a genuinely community minded live presence. Named after Arkell Street in Hamilton's Westdale neighbourhood, they started out as Charlemagne before a naming dispute pushed them to rebrand. Their catalogue now stretches to ten albums, from the debut Jackson Square through to Between Us, and the quality holds up across the run. High Noon and Rally Cry both took home the Juno Award for Rock Album of the Year, and the band has been nominated for Group of the Year six times. Singles like "Knocking at the Door" spent 14 weeks at number one on the Canadian alt rock charts, and their 2021 collaboration with K.Flay, "You Can Get It", shows they are still finding interesting corners to explore.
