About
Armen Chakmakian built his reputation as the keyboardist for Shadowfax, the GRAMMY award winning band whose 1992 album Esperanto earned a Best New Age Album nomination. His solo work on TruArt Records, the albums Ceremonies and Caravans, draws on a rich palette of world music textures, featuring collaborators like oud player and violinist John Bilezikjian, duduk master Djivan Gasparyan, and acoustic guitarist Alex De Grassi. Two tracks from Ceremonies landed spots on the legendary Buddha Bar compilation series, putting his sound in front of a global lounge audience. Beyond the studio, Chakmakian has taken his keyboard skills into some unexpected settings. He toured South America with Cirque du Soleil's Saltimbanco production, then did it again years later alongside Roger Hodgson as keyboardist and background vocalist. These days he composes for television while continuing to perform both as a solo act and as a sideman for other artists and productions.
