About
Also known as: Arnaldo Augusto Nora Antunes Filho
One of the most restless figures in Brazilian music, Arnaldo Antunes spent a decade helping shape the sound of Titãs, the São Paulo rock band he co founded in 1982, before stepping away in 1992 to do things on his own terms. His solo debut Nome arrived in 1993 as something genuinely unusual: a multimedia project mixing poetry, music and computer animation, with João Donato, Marisa Monte and Arto Lindsay all showing up on it. That restlessness never really settled. He has moved between MPB, Brazilian rock and collaborative experiments, including Os Tribalistas alongside Marisa Monte and Carlinhos Brown, and A Curva da Cintura, a three way project with Ira! guitarist Edgard Scandurra and Malian kora master Toumani Diabaté, which reached number five on the World Music Charts Europe in 2012. He also publishes poetry, and his compositions have landed on film soundtracks and in art festivals across multiple continents.
