About
Artis Ensemble is a wind quintet of five young players who clearly enjoy digging through the corners of the chamber repertoire that most programmers skip. The group started in 2024 and consists of Lisa van Oorschot on flute, Jonas Niesten on oboe, Paulien Backer on clarinet, Laima Minenko on horn and Jilles Baljet on bassoon. They still play the better known standards, but their real draw is the lesser played stuff, music by forgotten composers that rarely gets an airing. The name itself comes from a suite called Artis by Hans Lachman, one of those overlooked composers. Their repertoire also takes in Poulenc, Rimsky Korsakov and the French composer Albéric Magnard, including works for piano and winds. Curiosity and the fun of playing together drive everything they do.
