About
Also known as: Atif
Few voices in South Asian music carry the emotional weight that Atif Aslam brings to a song. The Pakistani singer blends pop and Sufi rock into something that works equally well on a Bollywood soundtrack and a Coke Studio stage, and his vocal belting technique has become his signature calling card. He broke through with "Aadat", originally released with his band Jal in 2003, before going solo and landing a string of massive Bollywood hits including "Woh Lamhe", "Pehli Nazar Mein", and "Tu Jaane Na". His Coke Studio performances, particularly "Tajdar e Haram" and "Wohi Khuda Hai", took on a life of their own online. He sings primarily in Urdu and Punjabi but has also recorded in Hindi, Bengali, Persian, and Pashto. Beyond music, he stepped in front of the camera for the 2011 Urdu drama film Bol, proving he is more than just a voice.
