About
Aurel Dawidiuk is a German pianist, organist and conductor who moves between instruments and the podium with genuine fluency. He won the top prize at the TONALi Piano Competition in Hamburg, walking away with 10,000 euros and a string of additional awards including the audience prize and the Christoph Eschenbach prize, performing Schumann's Piano Concerto with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in the Elbphilharmonie final. As a soloist he has appeared at venues from the Elbphilharmonie to the Opéra national de Lorraine, and in 2022 he took the German Music Competition prize for organ, the first time that award went to an organist since 2001. On the conducting side, things have moved quickly. Since the 2024/2025 season he has served as associate conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, and from the 2026/2027 season he takes over as General Music Director of the Bochumer Symphoniker, also leading the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr. He studied conducting at the Zurich University of the Arts and took masterclasses with Paavo Järvi and Joana Mallwitz, among others.
