Out of Detroit's eastside, AUX 88 is a duo built around TOMTOM (Tommy Hamilton) and POSATRONIX (William "BJ" Smith), making electro and techno that puts Detroit's machine funk tradition front and center. Their debut album "Bass Magnetic" dropped in 1993, and they've kept building from there, releasing records primarily on 430 West and Direct Beat that include "Direct Drive," "I Need to Freak," and "Play It Loud." The group picked up two Detroit Music Awards in 1999 for Outstanding Electronic/Dance Artist and Outstanding Electronic/Dance Recording, then kept the catalog growing through albums like "Xeo Genetic," "Black Tokyo," and "Mad Scientist." Decades in, AUX 88 are still a genuine touchstone for Detroit electro. Their 2020 album "Counterparts" shows the duo hasn't lost a step, and recent activity points to tracks like "Electronic Robots" and "Electro Slaves" keeping that hard edged machine sound very much alive. A Spirit of Detroit Award in 2022 sealed their status as true architects of the city's electronic scene.
