Aynur is widely regarded as one of the most prominent Kurdish vocalists working today. Born in Çemişgezek, Turkey, she has built a career around bringing traditional Kurdish folk music into dialogue with contemporary Western sensibilities, creating a sound that feels both rooted and expansive. Her albums rank among the bestselling Kurdish folk releases and have drawn serious attention from media outlets well beyond Turkey. Her voice has taken her into some remarkable company. She has performed and recorded with cellist Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, conductor Riccardo Muti, Iranian kamancheh master Kayhan Kalhor, clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, guitarist Javier Limón, the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, and the NDR Bigband. She appears in Fatih Akin's documentary Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul, and also features in Morgan Neville's film The Music of Strangers, which follows Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble.
