About
Also known as: B'Rock Orchestra, B’Rock
Founded in Ghent in 2005, B'Rock Orchestra built its reputation on bringing baroque and early music to life with period instruments, while refusing to stay in a comfortable niche. Alongside the big names like Bach, Vivaldi and Handel, they dig into lesser known corners of the 17th and 18th centuries, featuring composers such as Telemann, Alessandro Scarlatti and Pergolesi. They also commission and premiere new music written specifically for historic instruments, and their cross genre productions mix early music with theatre, dance, visual art and video. Rather than working with a permanent conductor, B'Rock invites guest conductors and soloists, which keeps things fresh across roughly 45 concerts a season. A debut at the Royal Opera De Munt in Brussels in 2012 with Handel's Orlando under René Jacobs was a landmark moment, and Belgian classical radio channel Klara named them Ensemble of the Year in 2015. Their discography runs deep, including a celebrated complete Schubert symphonies cycle with Jacobs and a 2023 Handel recording with Dmitri Sinkovsky.
